Badia ContactPage 1.5 Users Guide
Introduction
Badia ContactPage is the quickest way to create contact sheets of pictures with captions. You can now easily catalog a folder containing images, create clip art manuals in seconds, or publish product thumbnails online, all with QuarkXPress documents that are fully manageable and editable.
To use ContactPage, select Utilities > Badia ContactPage:
Document/Project Area
Allows you to select several document/project properties. New or Current Document/Project: Select whether to create a new document/project or to use current document/project and layout (if one is currently open).
Kind: Print or Web. (Web option not available under QuarkXPress 4.)
Width/Height: The document/project width and height.
Save every X pages: Choose to save the document/project every specified number of pages.
Margin Area
Allows you to select page margins. Margins are used by ContactPage to determine the actual area in which the contact sheet will fit (picture and text boxes cannot lie beyond the margins).
Facing Pages: Select this button to create a facing page document. When this option is selected, the Left and Right margins change to Inside and Outside, respectively.
Picture Area
Allows you to select the source folder and other properties of picture boxes. ContactPage always imports pictures in alphabetical order within each folder.
Specify Button: Click here to choose a source folder containing pictures.
Include Subfolders: Select this option to include pictures located inside subfolders as well.
Rows/Columns: The number of rows and columns per page that define the contact sheet grid.
Box Width/Height: The picture box width and height.
Box Shape: The picture box shape rectangular, rounded, beveled, concave or oval.
Fit: From this pop-up menu specify how to fit the picture or picture box: None, Picture to Box, Picture to Box (Proportionally), Box to Picture, or Fixed Scale. When selecting Fixed Scale, a dialog appears that will let you enter a percentage value (from 10% to 1000%). When you select Box to Picture fitting, picture boxes may expand or contract their right and bottom sides to fit the picture. The left and top sides always remain in the positions specified by the layout grid. This may cause certain picture boxes to overlap other pictures and/or captions. Placing captions above pictures and leaving enough space between pictures will prevent this problem.
Move: From this pop-up menu specify how to position the picture or picture box: None, Center Picture (within box), Send to Back or Send Backward. These last two refer to the picture box and its layering position against other existing boxes in the spread.
TIP: To create picture boxes with a background color or frame, you can change the default document or application picture box attributes (Preferences>Application>Print/Web Layout>Tools>Rectangular Picture Box).
Caption Area
Allows you to select to include captions and specify their characteristics. Captions: Select this button to turn captions on and off.
Position: Above or below the picture box.
Box Width/Height: The text box width and height.
Box Offset: The text box distance from the picture box.
Create Style Sheet: When this option is on, ContactPage will create a paragraph style sheet named Captions and a character style sheet named Captions Char Style, so you can easily make global type changes once the contact sheet is created. Note: if style sheets with these names already exist, ContactPage will use these instead.
Prefix/Suffix: Any custom text you want placed before and after the file info caption.
File Info Select Button: Click this button to select file information options. Choose from: sequential number (first picture in the folder is number 1), name, full path, image size, format (EPS, TIFF, etc.), color model (RGB, CMYK, Grayscale, etc.), image resolution in dpi, creator application, date modified, picture dimensions and picture scale (within the box). You can also select separator character(s) to be placed when more than one file info option is selected (but not after the prefix or before the suffix).
TIP: To create text boxes with a background color or frame, you can change the default document or application text box attributes (Preferences>Application>Print/Web Layout>Tools>Rectangular Text Box).
Resume Options Area
Allows you to begin cataloguing on a certain page, picture, row or column. You can also choose Current Document/Project from the document/project area to use the existing open document/project.
Triangle Button: Turns Resume Options on and off.
First Page: The page number at which to start the contact sheet. If needed, ContactPage will add blank pages.
First Picture: The picture sequence number to use as the first picture.
First Row: The first row for the first contact page.
First Column: The first column for the first contact page.
Preferences
To access ContactPage preferences, click on the Preferences button when the main window is open, or select Preferences->Application>Badia ContactPage.
Greek Pictures While Importing: When this option is selected, ContactPage will temporarily greek the pictures while creating the contact sheet. This makes screen redrawing faster.
Delete Boxes When Importing Fails: Select this option to completely skip pictures and their captions that cannot be imported due to an import error. If this option is off, ContactPage will leave an empty picture box instead (and its caption, if applicable).
Note: Images that cannot be imported will be reported by ContactPage after the contact sheet is created.
Import Only Recognizable Picture Files: When this option is selected, only files that have a valid and recognizable picture file format will be imported. If deselected, ContactPage will attempt to import any file located in the folder. Deselecting this option is useful when you have generic picture files imported from other platforms or that dont have valid type and creator signatures. However, make sure the folder does not contain other files or applications that may cause QuarkXPress to crash while attempting to import them. As well, remember to reset this preference to on after cataloguing these special images.
Note: Turning this preference on and off updates the total number of pictures/files and pages needed.
