Crops XT User Guide Version 4.0

What Crops XT Does…

Crops XT creates crop and registration marks, as well as color and gray bars around selected objects in a single step. The marks are made of QuarkXPress page elements for seamless integration and output.

Setting Preferences

Set your Crops XT preferences to place any combination of different crop and registration marks around the selected page elements. Use the preferences dialog to specify size and offset.

Line Weight - Sets the thickness of the crop and bleed marks.

Line Length - Sets the length of the crop and bleed marks.

Mark Size - Sets the width of the registration targets, color and gray bars, and the CMYK label.

Mark Offset - Sets the distance between the selection and the marks. This value is commonly larger than the Bleed value.

Bleed - Sets the distance between the selection and the bleed marks. Activated by the Crops check box, set the value to ‘0’ to eliminate the bleed marks.

Crops - Check to include crop and bleed marks at each cor- ner of the selection. Deactivate bleed marks by setting Bleed to “0.”

Targets - Check to include registration marks centered along each of the four sides of the selection.

CMYK Tag - Check to include a CMYK label to aid in plate or film identification when output as separations. Appears at the top of the selection, near the right–side corner.

CMYK Bar - Check to include a CMYK bar. Appears along the left side of the selected object(s), near the top corner.

Gray Bar - Check to include a gray bar along the bottom of the selection near the left side.

Color Bar - Check to include a color bar along the left side of the selection, close to the bottom.

Click OK to save the settings.

Removing Crops & Reg Marks

All the marks created are comprised of ordinary QuarkXPress objects. At creation, all the marks associated with a single selection are grouped together. Simply selecting this group and deleting it will remove all marks if necessary.

Should, you need to remove a single mark, the components of each mark are grouped together within the larger group. Each can be select- ed and deleted individually after ungrouping from the larger group. Note: Ungrouping the marks increases the possibility of accidentally repositioning them. In most cases, it is simpler to remove the group, and apply an adjusted set of marks.
