DragIn v1.0
Full-featured Drag and Drop support for QuarkXPress Users
USING GLUON DragIn
THE UTILITIES MENU
DragIn's functions are accessed through the Utilities Menu which appears on the right side of the menu bar.
DragIn Functions
DragIn is used facilitate importing graphics into QuarkXPress from various sources:
Single file from finder
Multiple files from finder
Folder from finder
Single graphic from browser
When importing files in this method, DragIn can create new boxes automatically or replace graphics already on the page.
THE DRAGIN DIALOG
The DragIn dialog box is a simple interface to allow you to determine how DragIn creates new boxes when files are dragged to blank areas of a page or when multiple pictures are dragged at once.
Make New Boxes
We currently offer two methods for placing boxes from margin to margin:
Per page: DragIn will calculate the necessary size of the boxes to provide the gap requested and the number of boxes accross and down requested.
With size: DragIn will create new boxes at the size you want as many as it can across and down.
Gap: Desired spacing between boxes.
New Box Shape
Select form Rectangle, Rounded rectangle and
Oval shapes.
Size Picture
Import at 100%: No resizing of pictures will occur, however, boxes may be clipped to fit within pasteboard area.
Fit proportionally to box: Will be as though you hit Command-Option-Shift-F on after the picture is imported. This often leaves wings on sides or top and bottom. Check on Fit box to picture to bring to clip the wings.
Stretch to box: Pixtures will be scaled to fill the box both vertically and horizontally, often resulting in a distorted picture.
Show picture info: Checking this on will cause DragIn to place a small text box at the bottom of the picture giving some basic info about the picture including name, size, resolution, creator and type. Normal style will be used, however you can override the size setting by checking on Info text size.
Process sub-folders: If you drag a folder or use the “Do folder” option, this will cause DragIn to drill down into all enclosed folders too, so be cautious not to accidentally process your hard drive (unless you want to).
Do Folder Use this to select a folder rather than dragging it. All enclosed picture files will be imported.
USING DRAGIN
There are several ways to use the XTension to import picture quickly:
1. Drag a single file from the finder or from a browser to import
2. Drag multiple files to import
3. Drag a folder to import
4.Select a folder to import
Single Images
Depending on where you drag, to, the behavior is different. If you drag over an empty region on a page (or one with no picture boxes), a new box (or boxes) will be created automatically and the picture imported according to settings. If you drag over an empty picture box, the picture will be imported to that box. If you drag over a filled picture box, the picture will replace the picture in that box. You will know it is going into a picture box because the box will be hilighted as you drag over it.
If you have JPEG, GIF and/or PNG import filters installed, you will be able to drag images straight out of a browser onto a QuarkXPress page. When this happens, DragIn will first download the picture to the location where the document is, and then import it with current settings. Browser drag does not support multiple images.
Multiple Images
Working very much like the single image drag, the multiple image drag behaves differently, depending on where you drag them. Another difference is that multiple boxes will be created in a grid, based on your settings from the dialog. If you drag the images over an existing picture box, the boxes created will be at the size of the target box, overriding your settings.
If the number of images is greater than what will fit on the current page, pages will be added as needed. This way, one can create very quickly a catalog of images
Types of Images Imported
The XTension should allow you to drag any graphic file format that is supported by QuarkXPress. Some images will require you to have the corresponding import filter installed also.
Preparation
IMPORTANT: FIRST REMOVE ANY OLD VERSIONS OF THE DRAGIN AS THIS WILL CAUSE CONFLICTS IN QUARKXPRESS!
Installation READ THIS BEFORE USING!!!
Unless it's a demo, Activate any GLUON by launching the GLUON Activator, provided. Place all GLUON XTensions in the XTension folder inside the Quark folder or in the Quark folder itself. This process must be repeated for each machine upon which you want to use GLUONS. Once you have activated a machine for one GLUON, this machine will run all GLUONS so you do not need to repeat the process when you get most new GLUONS. IMPORTANT: GLUONS will not operate if the above activation procedure is not followed! Please keep the GLUON Activator in a safe place off the network as you may need it again if the System or QuarkXPress is reinstalled.
