EASY METHODS OF UNLINKING TEXT BLOCKS & EXPORTING HTML

INSTRUCTIONS

Multiple selections can now be linked in the order of selection. When Linking, text can remain in original boxes rather than reflow into first box in chain. You can now slice stories in half in two ways.

THE GLUON MENU

When ProPack is present, Linkster’s functions are accessed through the GLUON Menu which appears on the right side of the menu bar. Otherwise it may be found in the Utilities Menu.

USING LINKSTER

Linkster is used to detatch a box (or boxes) of text from within a larger group of linked text boxes . This is often desirable on larger flowed documents where you want to isolate pages so that when you make changes they don’t cause every page after to reflow and mess up your layout. Also, relinking and text exporting features add new powers to Linkster.

THE LINKSTER DIALOG

IMPORTANT: Linkster actions can not be restored with Undo. Make sure that you save before you unlink or link if you want to be able to go back to the pre-linked state of the document using Revert to Saved.

Unlink Unlinks all boxes in the selected range in the manner set on the Unlinking Method Selector.

Link When using Page Range or Document settings this will only Relink boxes which were previously unlinked by Linkster. All other boxes will be ignored. When Selection is used, Linkster will try to find the most logical box to link to using these rules:

1.When multiple boxes are selected one at a time, it will link them in the order they were selected in.

2. If only one box is selected, it will try to find a similar box first on the current page then on the next page.

Keep text in boxes When this option is selected and boxes are linked together, Linkster will try to keep the text in those boxes as they were (yet linked). This is to avoid extreme reflow.

Selection Whenever a textbox or group of textboxes is active at the time of selecting Linkster from the menu, the selection option is activated. This will cause Linkster to unlink only the selected boxes (if they were linked). This also activates the unlinking method selector.

Unlinking Method Selector

The top option causes two separate text chains to be formed, one ending before (text A) the selected unlink range (text B) , one beginning after the selected range (box C), leaving three separate text chains . The second option allows remaining, linked text to be “reconnected” around the unlinked boxes, leaving two separate text chains. The third option cuts the chain into two chains with the first half ending in the selected box. The fourth option cuts the chain into two chains with the second half starting in the selected box.

Entire Document Affects every textbox in a document.

Page Range Affects every text box in the specified page range.

Export Text Range As... Extracts all text found on every page in specified range. Text is exported in vertical order it is encountered. Text may be exported as Plain ASCII, ASCII with Quark Style Tags, Plain HTML, or Formatted HTML where Bold, Italic, Underline, Rule Aboves and Belows, Text sizes and justification is carried over to the HTML document. KEY COMMANDS

Opt-Shift-L Link Current Selection Opt-Shift-U Unlink Current Selection. Remember, when linking to shift click on boxes to select linking order.

Preparation

IMPORTANT: FIRST REMOVE ANY OLD VERSIONS OF THE PROLINK XTENSION AS THIS WILL CAUSE CONFLICTS IN QUARKXPRESS!

Installation—READ THIS BEFORE USING!!!

Unless a demo, Activate any GLUON by launching the GLUON Activator, provided. This is not necessary for demos. Place all GLUON Xtensions in the XTension folder inside the Quark folder or in the Quark folder itself. This process must be repeated for each machine upon which you want to use GLUONS. Once you have activated a machine for one GLUON, this machine will run all GLUONS so you do not need to repeat the process when you get new GLUONS. IMPORTANT: GLUONS will not operate if the above activation procedure is not followed! Please keep the GLUON Activator in a safe place as it is our small piracy deterrent. Also, you may need it again if the System or QuarkXPress is reinstalled.
