About PictureXTracker

All the possibilities of PictureXTracker at a glance

PicutreXTracker searches for pictures belonging to a QuarkXPress document in a selected volume or directory.

PictureXTracker also searches through all subdirectories of the selected volume or directory.

If a picture appears several times in the selected subdirectories, PictureXTracker lets the user decide which picture is to be used.

PictureXTracker can load the pictures it has found.

PictureXTracker runs under Apple Macintosh from system 8.5.1 and under Windows 98, NT and 2000.

Close QuarkXPress if you have opened this program.

Copy the file "PictureXTracker" into the folder "XTension" in your QuarkXPress folder.

If you are installing on an Windows PC, copy the file „RemoveDemoXT.exe“ into the folder "XTension" too.

Start QuarkXPress again. The menu point "PictureXTracker" and its submenues now appears in the menu "Tools".

Installation

CAUTION! QuarkXPress may possibly crash if you convert the demo version to the full version under Windows 98.

If this happens, Xactuell Xtension must be pulled manually by drag-and-drop to the program RemoveDemoXT.exe (you will find RemoveDemoXT.exe on the installation CD and on CODEWARE's website). You can then restart QuarkXPress.

To convert a demoversion to the full version with Windows successfully the program „RemoveDemoXT.exe” has to be in the folder "XTension".

Starting the picture search with PictureXTracker

If you select the menu point "Reassign pictures" from the "PictureXTracker" menu, then a file selection dialogue appears. Here you can decide where to search for the pictures in the QuarkXPress document. You can select a complete volume:

Or you can select a subdirectory of a volume: In both cases, all subdirectories are also searched. Press OK to start the search in the selected folder or volume.

The PictureXTracker dialogue

At the start of the search, the PictureXTracker dialogue opens:
(1) shows which file is currently being checked to see whether it belongs to the document. (2) shows how many pictures have been found belonging to the document. The display (3) visualises the progress being made in loading the found pictures. Press button (4) to close the search. Press (5) to load the found pictures into the document.

If no pictures are found, press button (6) to show a list of the pictures which have not been found.

The further procedure depends on what pictures were found on searching through the selected volume or folder (all pictures, some of the pictures, no pictures …).

All pictures have been found once

If all pictures have been found once in the selected directory structure, the following message appears.

After confirming with "OK", the pictures can be loaded into the document by pressing button (5) "Load Pictures" in the PictureXTracker dialogue. Press button (4) "Close" to stop the procedure without making any changes to the QuarkXPress document.

Only part of the pictures have been found

If only part of the pictures in the QuarkXPress document have been found in the selected directory structure, then the following message appears: After confirming with "OK", the pictures can be loaded into the document by pressing button (5) "Load pictures" in the PictureXTracker dialogue. Button (6) "Show error list" is now active: press this button to see the dialogue "Missing pictures" which lists the pictures which were not found, together with their original location.

Use the button "Save list to file" to generate an error list in tab text format. By pressing the button "Save list to file" a selection dialogue appears where you can select the location and name of the list.

The generated list can be opened with usual word processing programs: The list can be used for research, re-orders, etc.

No pictures have been found

If none of the pictures in the QuarkXPress document were found in the selected directory structure, the following message appears: After confirming with "OK", press button (6) "Show error list" which is now active. This opens the "Missing pictures" dialogue which lists the pictures which were not found together with their original location: As described in the previous section, the list of missing pictures can be saved to a tab text file.

The pictures have been found several times

If a picture contained in the document is found several times on searching through the directory structure, PictureXTracker shows the following dialogue:
(1) shows where the picture was found first. (2) shows a second path where the picture appeared in the directory structure. The user must now decide which of the two pictures he wants to use. Press (3) "Go on" to use the picture originally found in (1). Press (4) "Use new path" to use the new picture found in the directory (2).

Pictureinformation

If you select the menu point "Show Pictureinformation" in the menu "View", the Pictureinformation dialogue appears: This dialogue always shows the path of the currently active picture box. The dialogue "swims" on the QuarkXPress surface, i.e. the user can go through the whole document and the dialogue always shows the path of the currently selected Picture.

Press the button "Show" and the program goes in the operating system to the point in the directory where the picture is saved or where it is expected. Press "Search" to go to the search function of your operating system (in Windows: the search mode of the Explorer; in Apple Macintosh, the service program Sherlock).

CAUTION: Using "Search" with Macintosh:

PictureXTracker uses the service program of the Macintosh operating system for the search. These service programs have different names in the different versions of the operating system (e.g. Sherlock, Sherlock 2) so that PictureXTracker uses an alias file of the service program to start. You have to create this alias file first before you can use "Search":
- Create an "alias" file from your search program.

- Give the alias file the name "SherlockAlias". - Save this alias file in the folder "XTensions" in your QuarkXPress folder. Now you can use the search function.

Search and replace

If picture data are saved in another volume or in another directory path than marked in the QuarkXPress document (e.g. when opening the document on another computer), it is possible to replace old picture paths with new ones. To do so, select the menu point "Find and Replace" from the menu "PictureXTracker": Enter the volume name and picture path of the original location in the "Search" window (1). (If the original picture path is not known, you can find it in the menu point "Pictureinformation": the path is stated in the window "additional pictureinformation".

Enter the path where the pictures are currently saved in the window "Replace" (2). Press the button "start search" for the first found picture path to be shown in the window "Found" (3). The button "Replace" replaces the old picture path
(1) with the new one in window (2).

Press the button "find next" for the next picture to be shown in window (3) and replaced.

Press the button "Replace all" for the original path (1) to be replaced by the new path (2) for all pictures.

If the checkbox "auto platform convert" is ticked, the replace function converts all Mac path separators to Windows path separators, and vice versa. The checkbox "Replace only valid picture path" prevents any path names being used in window (2) with no corresponding picture. The "Replace" button is then inactive.

Keycode

If you have purchased PictureXTracker and want to use it in the full version, here you should enter the keycode which you were given on purchasing the software. The keycode converts PictureXTracker from a demo version into a full version.

To do so, click on the button "Enter keycode" and then enter your keycode in the corresponding dialogue.

After clicking on "Close", the next time you start QuarkXPress, Xactuell will run in the full version.

CAUTION! To convert a demoversion to the full version with Windows successfully the program "RemoveDemoXT.exe" has to be in the folder "XTension".

Appendix

Delivery conditions

The following conditions apply to the delivery of programs for IT machinery and devices and for other agreed services. They do not apply to the creation of programs.

Any deviations from these delivery conditions, particularly the validity of customer purchasing regulations, require explicit written acceptance by CODEWARE.

Delivery

CODEWARE charges a fixed rate of 8.00 Euro p&p and will endeavour to take customer wishes into account with regard to the type and route of dispatch. Any additional costs incurred in this way will be charged to the customer, this also applies to agreed freight-free deliveries.

Prices

CODEWARE explicitly reserves the right to make any necessary price changes. Quotations are without obligation.

Payment

Invoices are due for payment within 14 days net cash after delivery.

The customer can only offset invoices from a counter-claim when CODEWARE does not dispute the claim or it has been declared to be legal.

In the case of non-payment, CODEWARE reserves the right to delete the delivered software insofar as it is permanently installed, and to collect the data carriers and accessories; the customer herewith agrees to this in the event of failure to pay within the set period.

No changes, no forwarding

The delivered software has not been sold. The customer merely obtains the non-transferable and non-exclusive right to use the delivered software. The software may not be forwarded to third parties. The right of use refers only to the customer's business unit (single person, society, company etc.) and legal successors. The customer may only change the software after obtaining approval from CODEWARE.

Penalty

If the customer infringes the program protection rulings contained in these conditions, he shall be obliged to pay a penalty amounting to ten times the delivery fee. In addition, the customer is then obliged to compensate for any collateral damage.

Retention of ownership

CODWARE retains ownership of the software until all CODEWARE's claims on the customer now or in future in the context of the delivered software have been paid.

Complaints

The customer must report any obvious faults without 2 weeks of delivery. Any guarantee claims after this period are precluded.

Other faults occurring during proper contractual use must be reported by the customer to CODEWARE without any delay in an easily understood manner, stating the information required for troubleshooting. At CODEWARE's request, this information shall be provided in writing. The customer shall support CODEWARE as far as reasonably possible in eliminating the fault.

Guarantee, liability

Attention is drawn to the fact that according to state-of-the-art technology it is not possible to completely preclude all faults under all conditions of use.

In the event of faulty delivery or service, CODEWARE is entitled to free repairs or replacement of the faulty components. If the repairs or replacement delivery fail, the customer is entitled to reduce the purchase price or rescind the contract.

If the faults result from circumstances for which CODEWARE is not responsible, the guarantee becomes null and void. This applies for example to malfunctions resulting from the use of unsuitable material or when the customer failed to comply with the installation requirements.

The guarantee also becomes null and void when the customer has changed or intervened with the delivered software, unless in the context of the fault report the customer can prove that the intervention was not responsible for the fault. If CODEWARE has become active as a result of a fault report without the customer being able to prove the existence of a fault, CODEWARE can demand compensation for the work involved.

Damages for culpable contract infringements and tortious acts cannot be claimed from CODEWARE and its vicarious agents apart from cases of wilful intent or gross negligence, or in the absence of warranted qualities. This does not apply to slight negligence, even if essential contractual obligations have been violated. CODEWARE is also liable for slight negligence if the damage is covered by the business liability insurance. CODEWARE undertakes to sustain the insurance cover existing on conclusion of the contract. This does not affect liability for personal injury and liability according to the product liability law.

If CODEWARE can only be accused of slight negligence, any liability for indirect or collateral damage is precluded, for example lost profits. This does not apply to the violation of essential contractual obligations. Claims for damages for the loss of saved data are precluded if the damage would not have occurred with proper data backup procedures.

Place of fulfilment

The place of fulfilment for the contractual services is the customer's headquarters.

Applicable law, place of jurisdiction

This contract is subject to German law.

The sole place of jurisdiction is CODEWARE's headquarters (Stuttgart) for all disputes arising from the contract in the event that the customer is a full merchant, legal person under public law or special fund in public law. CODEWARE is also entitled to file court action at the customer's headquarters.
