Redefine Style Sheet 1.1 Manual
a QuarkXTension for Macintosh QuarkXPress 3.32r5 and 4.x
Redefine Style Sheet 1.1
How to Use Redefine Style Sheet
1. Click in text that has a style sheet plus local formatting.
2. Choose Redefine Style Sheet from the Utilities menu, or type your shortcut keystroke.
Protecting Style Sheets from Being Redefined
You can prevent Redefine Style Sheet from changing certain style sheets. To protect the «Normal» style sheet, check its checkbox in the Protected Style Sheets section of the Preferences dialog. To protect a set of style sheets, enter a prefix or suffix character sequence, or both, in the Preferences dialog. Add the same prefix or suffix character sequence, or both, to the names of the style sheets you want to protect.
Preferences
To set your preferences, choose the menu command Edit > Preferences > Redefine Style Sheet. You can choose a keyboard shortcut, your style sheet redefinition protection, and whether to have the optional confirmation dialog display each time you use the Redefine Style Sheet command.
What is a style sheet?
Style sheets control character and paragraph formats. Once you tag a character or paragraph with a style sheet, you control its text formats with the style sheet definitions. So when your client calls with the fifth color change this week, you just smile, select that purple head, choose blue, hit the Redefine Style Sheet keystroke, and its done. Since this advantage is not evident until after youve started to use style sheets, some people dont use them. Now Redefine Style Sheet makes it painless to use style sheets.
How does Redefine Style Sheet work?
Quickly. Simply adjust your text on the page where you can see it, and choose Utilities > Redefine Style Sheet (or type your keystroke) to instantly update the style sheets. An optional confirmation dialog informs you which settings will change.
Cant you just redefine style sheets without an XTension?
Yes, but its not quick or easy. Choose Edit > Style Sheets to make your changes in the dialog boxes, but you cant see what youre doing. Or, make your changes on a sample of text, and use the Replacement Routine, a tedious procedure that takes us at least 24 seconds. See our web page for details.
Can it Undo?
No. There is currently no Undo. Tell us if you want it added to the next version.
Is there a Windows version?
No. Do you need one? Tell us.
Minimum Requirements
Mac OS and QuarkXPress 3.32r5 or 4.x.
Installation
Quit QuarkXPress if its running. There are two versions of Redefine Style Sheet in the package, one for each version of QuarkXPress (3.32r5 or 4.x). Choose the correct one and drag it to your Quark XTension folder. Until you put in a key, Redefine Style Sheet loads in demonstration mode.
Demonstration Mode Limitations
The XTension works 25 times, and the confirmation dialog cannot be disabled. Our XTension does not put QuarkXPress into demo mode.
Unlocking to Remove Demo Limitations
To enter your key, go to Edit > Preferences > Redefine Style Sheet and click the Unlock button. Put your key in the space provided. Since the key is long, we suggest that you copy and paste it into the dialog. The key provides unlimited use and allows you to turn off the confirmation dialog.
