To do so, use the Text Field tool (Tools> Advanced Editing> Forms> Text Field) and draw a text field. Then Control-click or right-click on it and select from the contextual menu that appears, choose Properties> General> Common Properties> and then either "Visible but doesn't print" or "Hidden but printable".
Hidden Link and Unlink Power in QuarkXPress. The Scripts menu in QuarkXPress contains many handy and helpful capabilities. For example, the Stories- Link Selected Text Boxes script will do exactly that, in the order in which you selected them. (It also offers to import a text file at the end of the process.) And the Stories- Unlink Selected Boxes unlinks the boxes while keeping each one's content intact. Reprinted with permission from Design Tools Monthly.
Better Blends in QuarkXPress - When creating a blend in QuarkXPress 6.5 or below, instead of fading from a color to white, try using 5% of the color instead of white. The blend will print much smoother. (In QuarkXPress 7, just fade to 0% opacity.) Reprinted with permission from Design Tools Monthly.
Design Tools Monthly Tip

Make a Default "Save" Folder in QuarkXPress - One often overlooked feature in QuarkXPress 6.5 and 7 is specifying a default folder for saving your files. By defining a Save folder, whenever you choose File> Save, or File> Save in a new Project, your default folder appears in the Save dialog box, rather than whichever folder you last used. To do this, choose QuarkXPress> Preferences> Save> Destination and click the Select button. Then navigate to your preferred Save folder, which may be your current project folder. - Reprinted with permission from Design Tools Monthly.
